The Reason I Stopped Complaining On The Internet

As 2018 comes to an end and I get even more nostalgic (if that’s even possible), I am reflecting on the content and collaborations we have been a part of. I am proud of what we’ve accomplished both as a team of beautiful people around the world, but also as a media outlet. That being said, I haven’t always been the most positive person online and, while I do not ignore the past, I have come to learn from it. The world is a chaotic place and this year I made a very conscious effort to no longer take to the internet to spread hate, hurt or harm anyone in my life. It might seem like that’s a given, but it seems as though many of us quickly (and callously) use our social media to spread negativity when we feel wronged. It’s definitely not the best move to make, especially when there are millions of people who use the likes of social media every day. 90.4% of these are millennials, (click here for more statistics) and they probably don’t want to see this amount of hate and hurtful comments on their timeline. There is something to be said for keeping those things off the internet, and I wanted to tell you why I stopped complaining on the internet. An Important Day To Remember

I remember years ago sitting down to do one of those DNA kits. After spitting into a tube and rubbing the inside of my cheek with a cotton swap I sat down to fill out the questionnaire. One of the questions struck me as strange because it asked me if I wanted to know if I was genetically predisposed to Alzheimer’s and other mental conditions. Being that I already knew that Schizophrenia and Alzheimer’s ran on my mother’s side, I gave it some thought and decided to say yes.

Weeks later when the results came in, I found out the results and though it was difficult to read, I did in fact possess the gene that could lead to both. Now it should be noted that this does not mean I will suffer from either, but it gave me a lot to think about. So when I found out that #GivingTuesday 2018 allows me the opportunity to support The Schizophrenia Society of Ontario, I know it was something I should share with you all.  Continue reading “An Important Day To Remember”

The Gift Your Dog Deserves This Holiday

Years ago when we adopted Canela from Dog Tales Rescue and Sanctuary, I could never have known how much a pet could change my life. When I was growing up, we always had cats and she is my first dog ever. She has quickly become of the best things that has ever happened to me. From consoling me when I lost to my dad, to the memories our little family shared over the years, #CanelaReyes still manages to put a smile on my face every time I think about her during a busy day of all things #DoTheDaniel. So this holiday season I wanted to find the perfect gifts to stuff her stocking (yes, a stocking is hung for her so that Santa brings her presents) and so that I can treat her the way she deserves.  Continue reading “The Gift Your Dog Deserves This Holiday”

What Does It Mean To Be Mindful?

For those of you who follow along with us on social media, you’ll have noticed that recently I had the pleasure of spending the morning with Capital One Canada at The Broadview Hotel here in Toronto. Centered around the idea of mindfulness, something that I’ll be honest I haven’t always been very good at, it turned out to be one of the most inspiring moments I have had in a very long time. Not only reminding me what it was like to reconnect with my friends in this industry, it also provided me with some concrete tools to be more mindful in my day-to-day life. As we get closer to the excitement of Credit Education Week, I thought I would share my five tips to #MoneyMindfulness with you all in hopes that just like how Capital One Canada inspired me to be better, I can do the same for you heading into the holiday season.
