Food & Wine | Bringing a little Buenos Aires to Canada with Bodega Argento’s Esquinas De Argento

The autumn has arrived and the transition of wardrobe and mentality is upon us all. During my favourite season of the year, most people have started to dream of warmer destinations and lifestyles in lieu of the pending winter white. Lucky for us all in Ontario, we can now bring a little piece of Buenos Aires home with us with the launch of Esquinas De Argento Pinot Grigio & Cabernet Sauvignon from Bodega Argento. Let me tell you all how this beautiful new wine is helping to enlighten the wine community of what Argentinian wine can and should be.

For those of you who haven’t yet tried Argentinian wine, you’re in for a treat. Traditionally quite full bodied due to the warmer climate, this area boasts some of the best Malbec’s in the world. Earthy and sweet all at once, traditional Argentinian Malbec comes alive when served with red meat and after a meal with friends and loved ones. Argentinian wine, like the culture, is warm, playful and adds some adventure to your personal wine repertoire.

Taking a step into the Pinot Grigio & Cabernet Sauvignon world, Bodega Argento has created a more approachable entry into the Argentinian wine world without loosing any of it’s heritage and beauty.

“Named after the city’s vast street grid pattern that forms a network ofesquinas (corners), it reflects the vibrant sights and sounds of urban life that give the city its captivating energy. ‘Esquinas – where life happens.’”

The Pinot Grigio (available at your local LCBO) offers a lighter more airy white than you might expect. With heavy citrus flavours coming from the warmer climate, this wine is a beautiful way to carry over white wine into the colder months. Pair it with fish or chicken (add some traditional Argentinian spices such as Cayenne Pepper, Paprika or Oregano to embrace the culture) for a delicious play on flavour and acidity.

The Cabernet Sauvignon is an interesting venture in my opinion. Though a bold red grape as well, I normally would associate it with its Californian and French cousins. All that to say, a beautiful and not to mention affordable option for Cabernet Sauvignon lovers! Heavy flavours of smokiness and tart fruit lead on the palette and play with any type of meal. The sign of a good red wine in my opinion is its versatility and ability to adapt to what you are eating. I would recommend a hearty steak or some dark chocolate to really set the mood. We all know what Argentinian romance looks like and it usually starts with a beautiful bottle of red wine they say…

I truly enjoyed tasting both bottles and would encourage you to do the same. For both beginners in the Argentinian wine world or the well versed sommelier, Esquinas De Argento is a beautiful way to bring yourself to Buenos Aires in a glass.

Please remember to enjoy responsibly and never drink and drive.
