5 Get Better Quick Tips to feel better this winter!

Is there anything worse than being sick? Actually come to think of it, there is. Being ill in winter is definitely not ideal, especially when you have to battle cold weather conditions, as well as a cold home too. Just like with being ill, I couldn’t think of anything worse than living in a cold home, so all I can say is that it’s a good job that we have access to a furnace heating system to help ensure we can stay nice and toasty at all times. That reminds me. I need to schedule a tune-up with somewhere like summersphc.com/franklin/services/heating/furnace-tune-up/ to ensure that everything is working as it should at all times. This will help me greatly when I’m ill in the future, as I want to be able to relax and recover as quickly as possible, just like I was able to do last time.

Over the holidays I came down with a case of something nasty and quickly turned to Catherine (as a Holistic Nutritionist) to help get me better, and quick. If you’re like me, time is precious and ain’t nobody got time for that! So with Catherine’s help I am sharing 5 get better quick tips this winter to help you when you unavoidably get sick.

#1 Fisherman’s Friend

We all could use that little bit of help to #SuckItUp this winter. I’ve been buying Fisherman’s Friend for as long as I can remember. To be honest, I actually sometimes eat them like I would mints… probably shouldn’t be doing that, but I love the flavours. I actually enjoyed finding out “Which Flavour” Personality I was by checking out their online quiz.

Fun fact, I didn’t realize the amazing history of something that I took for granted for so long! “Fleetwood pharmacist James Lofthouse develops a menthol and eucalyptus liquid for fishermen in Fleetwood to take with them on stormy and freezing trips into the North Atlantic. It delivers instant relief from problems caused by the prolonged exposure to hostile conditions.” Some people would describe Canadian winters as pretty hostile, so it only made sense to have this be my number 1 trick to get better and #SuckItUp this year.

#2 Essential Oils

You’ll remember that Catherine introduced us all to Thursday Plantation in 2016 and since then I have made a point to keep myself stocked up at home. Essential oils are all the rage right now in the health industry (though they are by no means a new concept) and they have a TON of benefits. Using a diffuser is a great way to get essential oils into your living space and to help with congestion and a stuffy nose, I can usually be found using Eucalyptus Oil during the day and Lavender Oil to help me sleep. You’d be amazed at what a small addition to your life like this can do when you aren’t feeling well.

#3 Fresh Produce & lots of citrus

It’s no secret that vitamin C is important for us, but especially when I’m not feeling well, I try to get in a good extra dose on a daily basis. Shopping at President’s Choice allows me to get the produce and fresh food I crave. I think that Canadians are becoming more savvy and now understand more than ever that eating fresh food is key to feeling better. AND if you’re a PC Plus Points member, you can earn points while shopping. It’s a win-win really.

#4 Get Some Sleep!

You all know that I love sleep – even though I wouldn’t consider myself a good sleeper. I think sometimes I let stress keep me up at night, which probably is a contributing factor to me getting sick recently. We told you about our Casper mattress in 2016 and I’m excited to share that Catherine will be sharing something exciting with Capser in 2017 (Stay tuned!) Sleep is one of the best ways to get better quick and having a good mattress can help to make that recovery come quicker. Not to mention a warm, cozy blanket to snuggle under and snore away! One very important thing to take care of during the winter, and especially if you’re feeling under the weather – heaters! You’ll definitely be needing them to keep your house warm and drive away the cold, so be sure that you contact experts of hvac installation in Denver (or in your vicinity) well in advance so that they can come and fix up everything before you even need them. Ah, now go and cozy up in the bedroom already!

#5 Crystals

Yes. I am going on record as saying that the addition of crystals to my home has helped to re-balance the energy of both my space and my body. Believe it or not, there has actually been a lot of studies on the therapeutic properties of crystals. But I think the overarching theme is that natural care for your body can go a long way. Medicating myself 24/7 may have been the way I dealt with being sick in my youth, but now thanks to these five tips, I know better. I’m not kidding – look into crystals.

These are my 5 tips to get better quick this winter – thank you Catherine for your help! (Make sure to follow her Instagram account and for more information and helpful tips, make sure to stay up to date with all things Health & Nutrition on her website, Catherine’s Cabinet)
