Events | Attending my first ever Diner en Blanc

I have always been the kind of person that is hard to surprise. I think I get it from my mom – we are both very good at knowing what is going to happen before it happens. When I was introduced to the concept of Diner en Blanc, I was intrigued to say the least. Started nearly 30 years ago in Paris, the concept is that you purchase tickets to a gathering of food lovers who all wear white. The twist? You don’t know where the event will be until the day of the event. Come and see why this year I am attending my first, but certainly not my last, Diner en Blanc in Toronto alongside Julio and Catherine!

“At the last minute, the secret location is revealed to thousands of friends who have all been patiently waiting to learn where “Dîner en Blanc” will take place. Thousands of people, dressed all in white, and conducting themselves with the greatest decorum, elegance, and etiquette, all meet for a mass “chic picnic” in a public space. Over the course of the evening, guests experience the beauty and value of their city’s public spaces by participating in the unexpected. Beyond the spectacle and elegance of the dinner itself, guests are brought together from diverse backgrounds by good taste and a love of beauty. Le Dîner en Blanc recalls the elegance and glamor of high French society, and guests engage one another, knowing that they are taking part in a truly magical event. There are no disruptions: no car traffic, no pedestrian traffic—only amazed and astonished looks from passersby observing the scene before them. And participants, like spectators, wonder whether it’s all not a dream…”

It all seems magical in my opinion and over the years I have always missed the chance to attend. This year I was determined to attend the #DEBTO2016 and join in on the worldwide celebrations. Now that my intrigue is sparked and I anxiously await the big location reveal, I am already planning how I can attend other Diner en Blancs around the world!

Now of course the question is what to wear. I’ll be rocking an all white ensemble from LE CHÂTEAU and I’m excited to share both Julio & Catherine’s looks when we arrive. While we eat, drink and mingle the night away, we will be sharing what it’s like to attend for the first time with some of Toronto’s biggest food lovers. Though this year is already sold out (it always sells out so quickly!) – make sure to click here to learn about Diner en Blanc in your city and how you can get tickets.
