Fifteen Years Later, I’m Finally Sharing My Coming Out Story

Funny, even just writing the title to this blog post evokes a lot of different emotions. For those of you who don’t know, October 11th is National Coming Out Day, and I am sharing my personal experience. To help shed light on the importance of this day, Egale, Canada’s leading organization for LGBTQI2S people and issues, asked queer content creators to share their stories in the most open and honest way we could. Inside Out and Upside Down

The more I think about 2020, the more I realize the importance of finding inspiration and joy in the sings. A meal with a friend (safely at a distance) that I haven’t seen in a long time. A walk with Canela in the park to soak up the colours of the season. A workout for me because I deserve the time for myself. And of course the arts and film, which have always been such a source of emotional catharsis for me.

PROUD ALLIES FOR ALL

With #PrideMonth in full force, I am going to be sharing a lot of #Pride content with you all over the next month. Both because I am proud of who I am as a gay man, but also to be a voice for my community and those communities often muted in the world for their differences.

I feel, now more than ever, it is important to remember that the first pride was a riot. That our community has taken a long time to get to where we are. And it is with partners and allies that we will continue to thrive and share our ability to be Proud. Rainbow washing happens a lot at this time of year – the idea of throwing a rainbow on a product to make a quick buck while not actually being an ally at all. So all I can say right now is educate yourself on the brand before giving them your dollars. Or come to trusted members of the LGTBQ+ and ask us. So, without further fuss, let’s talk about a brand that is and has always supported us and our ability to express who we are.
