With this year being Canada 150, the summer is jam-packed with events and activities that are sure to make this a celebration for the books. I for one, personally cannot wait for my initial summer kick off – The 158th Annual Queens Plate!
For those of you not so familiar with the Queens Plate, this 2 day annual event, taking place at Woodbine race track, is the oldest thoroughbred horse race and longest continually run race in all of North America. This prestigious event comes from the traditions and history of our British ancestry and the races itself are closely tied to both the history of Toronto and of the Royal Monarchy. Bringing together spectators, fans and tourists from all over the globe last year, with over 35,000 in attendance, marked the most celebrated Queens Plate to date.
This year, the bar has been set even higher with performances from Grammy nominated and multi-platinum selling artists the Goo Goo Dolls and Canadian rock icons Our Lady Peace. Not to mention that this year will be the launch of the American Express Lounge presented by American Express. This exclusive lounge gives cardholders the opportunity to take a breather, enjoy a beer or cocktail and grab a perfect view of the races on Day 1 (July 1st) of the anticipated events.
So other than the festivities and culture that this event brings every year, another huge portion of the Queens Plate festivities is the fashion (and obviously my favourite part of any kind of …. anything really). Every year, the ladies dress to the nines in their most floral ensembles and the gentleman dapper up in their colourful tailoring to compete in the Fashion at the Races Best Dressed contests. Now I would be completely lying to you if I didn’t let you know that I’ve basically had an outfit on standby for this event for quite some time, just itching to get the right wear – so to say I’m excited to compete for the first time may be a little bit of an understatement!

Tickets have hit the box office already as of June 3rd, so be sure to hurry up and grab some right away for a very special Canada 150 celebration at 158th Annual Queens Plate.
