Lifestyle | My very first “Manzilian”

I am very lucky that the blogging world has allowed me to experience some amazing things and meet some incredible people over the years. From parties to previews, every day of my life is an adventure that I get to share with you. But when I was asked if I would like to try out “The Manzilian” waxing treatment at Allure Body Bar, I’m going to be honest and say my gut instinct told me no. ABSOLUTELY not. Run Daniel, run!

Now, let’s be honest here. I am not about to show you a before and after photo. I don’t run THAT kind of site, but I can speak to my personal experience.

Located in the east end of Toronto, Allure Body Bar is not like the every day run of the mill “waxing place” that you’re used to. “We welcome both men and women to enjoy our services. You will not find fancy chandeliers, silk robes or music of waterfalls. Instead you will find a very clean atmosphere and very affordable services delivered in a short time frame.” Clean + Quality is what they are all about. But one of my favourite things about them is their cheeky attitude! “You grow it, we mow it.” I mean. That might be one of the best slogans I’ve heard this year.

But at this point boys, are you convinced? I wasn’t either… Upon arrival I was welcomed with a big smile. I must have been giving some hesitant looks because they could tell I was nervous. I met Luba who was kind and welcoming with a big smile. Before I knew it I was escorted into one of the rooms, told to drop my pants and hope up on the table. Well, that was quick!

So… off comes the pants and up I go. The one thing I will speak to and recommend gentlemen is perhaps some pre-maintenance on your part before you try your first manzilian San Diego. Lesson learnt to say the least. I am not going to sugar coat this for you boys because I believe in being honest. Is this pain free? Absolutely not. Thank goodness gracious Luba was experienced and chatty. She kept my mind off topic to the best of her ability as she worked her magic. Although it felt longer in my mind, from start to finish (front & back) I was on the table for 20 minutes. It was all very seamless and after you get past that first strip , it’s not as bad as you psych yourself up to it being.

The most intense part would have to be the second kind of wax that comes out to clean up the boys. It hardens and then is removed almost like a cast. That was quite an … interesting… feeling. But extremely effective.

Side bar. Ladies, I am very well aware that you have been getting waxed for a long time. And I respect you more now that I have experienced it as well below the waist. But let me make one thing VERY clear to you. You have innies and men have outies. So the next time a woman gets all up in my face about waxing I now have a very valid point to counter with. The end.

Some helpful hints can be found on their website for the men out there who are interested in trying this out. I can definitely say that this was an experience I won’t soon forget!

Once it was all done and I had come to see my new aesthetics, I was actually really impressed. They ensure that you know how to take care of your body post waxing, answer any questions you have and that you are comfortable before you walk out the door. I felt relaxed and proud of myself for facing my fears.

As a lifestyle topic, I do believe it is important for men to feel beautiful about themselves. I have said it before and I will say it again, but men have come to realize that beauty isn’t just for the ladies. Though I don’t think every man I know will be running out the door to Allure Body Bar, for those who are interested in taking care of their bodies in this way, this is the place to go.

Five days later, I am still looking back and laughing at the experience. I am proud to say I have had my first Manzilian thanks to Allure Body Bar and recommend that both men and women head there for their beauty needs. You will not be dissapointed, and you may even learn a thing or two!
