Food & Wine | The Glenlivet is taking Scotch to a new level for Canadians

What a week! With events, the holidays, pending Holiday Gift Guides with the #DoTheDaniel girls… it’s hard to find time for myself, let alone to relax. I’m sure that most of you feel the same way as the nights grow darker and the cold settles in for the long haul. The best way to unwind comes with those precious moments we take for ourselves and with those we love. In my opinion, these moments are usually shared over a delicious drink. Lucky for Canadians from Coast to Coast, The Glenlivet has something special planned for us all to add to these special moments. For scotch lovers, The Glenlivet is a name that inspires you to think of quality. I am excited to tell you all, be you scotch aficionados or first time sippers, about some of their latest releases and how to add them to your personal Holiday wishlists or as the perfect host gift.

There is nothing quite like sipping the best scotch money can buy to warm up after a long day or a long commute during a Canadian Winter. The Glenlivet has got several newly released products just in time for those occasions and each of them has something unique to offer.

Four new Single Malt Scotch whiskies have been released and I have decided I need ATLEAST one of each after reading over their descriptions and tasting notes. “Nàdurra Oloroso, Guardian’s Chapter, Tomnabat Hill and Winchester Collection are now available and each of these unique expressions will be a great addition to any whisky drinker’s collection.”

Not to mention one very limited edition must have available ONLY to Canadians. This season is all about appreciating the beautiful things in life and The Glenlivet has made sure to add several items to my personal list of things I am grateful for.

NadurraOloroso

Nàdurra Oloroso

“Inspired by Nàdurra whisky, the Dram Chair is constructed with the finest natural materials and remarkable attention to detail. To sit back on its oak, copper and leather framework is to immerse yourself in the natural materials of Nàdurra and to be transported to an intimate moment of escape.” This new release retails at an approximate price of $84.95 dollars (province specific*).

Guardian’s Chapter

This was the one that immediately stole my heart. I thankfully was able to get my hands on a bottle before they sold out! “Matured in a mixture of Butts, Hogsheads and Barrels with a subtle Sherry influence, the result is an exotic and unexpected Single Malt of exceptional quality and unparalleled smoothness.” The description alone inspires me to think of cold winter nights cuddling by a fire with Julio sipping Guardian’s Chapter. Romantic, regal and all around rounded in it’s flavours. This is my personal favourite of the four new releases and a great bottle of Scotch to keep stocked in your home. Retails price is approximately $94.95 (province specific*).

Tomnabat Hill

This luxury bottle of Scotch is one that I personally have asked Santa for for Christmas. Retailing at an approximate price of $320.00 dollars (province specific*) the price tag may scare you but the quality will woo you. Hints of sweet and savoury, a beautifully executed scotch awaits those who add this to their personal repertoire. “Named after Tomnabat Hill, this is the site of ancient rivalries, fierce battles and smugglers’ trade hidden on the slopes in the local area that overlooks The Glenlivet Distillery.” This to me is what a beautiful bottle of scotch for special occasions is meant to be.

Open Box B

Winchester Collection

“The Winchester Collection is the world’s first collection of 50 year old single malts.” I mean, I could leave it at that and let the history of the product speak for itself. Not only is the bottle positively beautiful but the product itself speaks to the expertise that comes along with age and experience. Retailing for approximately $25,000.00 (province specific*) this is one of those bottles that most might not be able to afford but if I won the lottery I would be picking up right away. Any rich friends out there looking to get me a Christmas present? You can put me down for one of these should you feel so generous!

“The inaugural release, Vintage 1964, was created from an American Hogshead oak cask laid down to mature by Captain Bill Smith-Grant, the last distilling descendant of The Glenlivet’s founder, George Smith, on the 24th of April 1964. It was soon after singled out as a cask of exceptional promise and has been tended to under the watchful eye of no fewer than seven Master Distillers and is the result of their unrivalled knowledge, unwavering care and unfaltering craft.”

Single Cask Squadron 70 Label (FINAL)

Last, but not least, the limited edition The Glenlivet Single Cask: Squadron 70

“The Glenlivet is offering an once-in-a-lifetime experience available only to Scotch whisky lovers in Canada: the rare release of a one-of-a-kind, hand-selected single cask named The Glenlivet Single Cask: Squadron 70.”

How can you add this limited edition bottle to your personal collection or for that special someone in your life? “Canadians can reserve a piece of history today at theglenlivet.com/singlecask. It features exceptional aging characteristics and is available for $250.00. The bottle will be delivered in January.”

All in all the new line of products from The Glenlivet has me execited to give them all a try. Make sure to check out availability at your local liquor store in your home province to ensure you get your hands on one (or all) of them before they sell out this holiday season.

  1. Our children bought us tickets for the The Glenlivet Single cask edition event in Toronto on Jan 21st 2015. We have not been able to find the time or lacation of this event. Could you help us? 705-322-0877

  2. I have to say that I am disappointed to see that the Squadron 70 will be available in stores. The emails from Glenlivet indicated that the bottle could only be purchased at the event. I realize that the bottle price in stores ($250) will be equal to the tasting ticket price ($50) plus the $200 bottle price at the tastings, and you get food for free, but I still would have preferred to just buy it in store. This was pretty deceptive in my opinion.

  3. Is it possible for whisky to go off in the bottle? I have been drinking The Glenlivet 12 YO for some time and recently switched to Founder’s reserve( In the Blue Box). For some reason the bottle I purchased last night had a definitely strange unpleasant( almost corky taste). At first I thought I was imagining this but by the second glass I could not dink anymore. I took it back to the shop where I purchased this but they said this was not possible. I just left the bottle there for them to check with their supplier( I did not want to drink it anymore) and did not get a replacement or a refund. I just want to know if I could be right or are my taste buds going crazy? The last 5 bottles of Founders Reserve have been fine. And numerous bottle of 12YO!!!
