Daniel’s Dish | BIVY Café

The premise of the column is simple; work with restaurants of all kinds in this amazing city to explore what they have to offer and what makes them unique. Yet again I find myself headed west for this edition of Daniel’s Dish (see my most recent post in Little Portugal). This time, I head into Brockton Village & The Brockton Triangle for what may be one of my favourite dining experiences in a long time with Julio.

What I didn’t see coming nestled in this cute nook of the city is one of the best French-inspired restaurants I’ve yet to visit. BIVY Café is the epitome of quaint, nestled into a space with enough tables to count on two hands. White walls, wood furnishings and unique art hanging on the walls. Daniel’s Dish | The Fifth Pub House

Ah the pub. We have all been to, enjoyed or hated one of these at some point or another in; in every case, what comes to mind? Dingy decor and greasy food for the most part. Chef Brad Livergant of The Fifth Grill & Terrace (hopefully coming to a Daniel’s Dish soon!), known for its fine dining experience will bring that upscale flair to the standard pub concept. I recently joined the Chef to discuss and try out the newest addition to The Fifth Family, and I can say I’m once again a pub fan! Has anyone else noticed the resurgence of hot spot restaurants and dinning experiences being had in Little Portugal? I have, because Julio & I are being pulled more and more in the direction of the west end, and rightfully so with restaurants like The Guild to visit and enjoy. Daniel’s Dish | CAFE BAR PASTA

The premise of the column is simple; work with restaurants of all kinds in this amazing city to explore what they have to offer and what makes them unique. In a city like Toronto, the choices are sometimes daunting and the food reviews and critics can be snotty and too complicated for their own good. On top of this, I’ve worked in marketing so I know how hard it is to come up with coffee shop marketing ideas that will gain the attention of the public so sometimes amazing cafe’s aren’t able to get the customers they deserve. So why not bring attention to the smaller coffee shops and cafes to keep this easy?

Nestled in the heart of Little Portugal, amid a neighbourhood that is rejuvenating and rebranding itself with each day, is one of the most memorable restaurants I’ve visited in a long time. CAFE BAR PASTA, not your typical restaurant by any means, is a marriage of beautiful food, decor and service. Recently, I was delighted to join and sample dishes from their much-anticipated Fall menu. The first time I met the charismatic owner Tom Bielecki, whom swept Julio and I as we passed by and into the newly opened space to sample a drink on the marble bar top.
