Daniel’s Dish | The Carbon Bar

The premise of the column is simple; work with restaurants of all kinds in this amazing city to explore what they have to offer and what makes them unique. In a city like Toronto, the choices are sometimes daunting and the food reviews and critics can be snotty and too complicated for their own good. So why not keep this easy?

Drinks. Appetizer. Main Course. Dessert. All along with a bit of information about what makes them my choice for Daniel’s Dish and why you should try them right away!

The Carbon Bar, 99 Queen Street East (416) 947-7000

The First Daniel’s Dish of 2014 has arrived, and The Carbon Bar has set the bar high. Sister restaurant to the Toronto hot spot Nota Bene (see my review of their G&T program here), The Carbon Bar is quickly making a name for itself in the food world. Windows looking into the enormous space are suggestively dressed with disco balls and glitz that grab your attention amid the hustle and bustle of Queen Street. When you walk into the space, your eyes are drawn immediately to the incredible height of the ceiling and the enormity of the restaurant from one end to the other. The decor is nothing short of breath taking in its complexity and elegance. I have no other way to describe the juxtaposition of colour and texture other then a medley with something to look at everywhere you turn. I would go so far as to say it is a sensory overload in all the right ways. Continue reading “Daniel’s Dish | The Carbon Bar”

Destingo, 741 Queen St. West (647)-748-3113

As you can tell, Daniel’s Dish is becoming quite the busy little column for me over the last few months; the feedback has been incredible, the restaurants all unique in their own right and the people I have met, positively exquisite. This Daniel’s Dish will mark the last for 2013. As the Holidays are around the corner, I hope that you all get to enjoy what Destingo brings to the Toronto Restaurant scene.

Relatively new on the Queen West strip, Destingo is nestled into an area which for a long time wasn’t the best place to be in Toronto after dark. Thanks to a lot of love, and beautiful establishments like this one, the Gallery District is rejuvenating and blossoming into a cultural hub and meeting of the minds. Yet again I find myself headed west for this edition of Daniel’s Dish (see my most recent post in Little Portugal). This time, I head into Brockton Village & The Brockton Triangle for what may be one of my favourite dining experiences in a long time with Julio.

What I didn’t see coming nestled in this cute nook of the city is one of the best French-inspired restaurants I’ve yet to visit. BIVY Café is the epitome of quaint, nestled into a space with enough tables to count on two hands. White walls, wood furnishings and unique art hanging on the walls. The feeling of being at home wraps its arms around you and holds on tight from start to finish. Continue reading “Daniel’s Dish | BIVY Café”

Ah the pub. We have all been to, enjoyed or hated one of these at some point or another in; in every case, what comes to mind? Dingy decor and greasy food for the most part. Chef Brad Livergant of The Fifth Grill & Terrace (hopefully coming to a Daniel’s Dish soon!), known for its fine dining experience will bring that upscale flair to the standard pub concept. I recently joined the Chef to discuss and try out the newest addition to The Fifth Family, and I can say I’m once again a pub fan!
