Navigating The Reality of Being 2SLGBTQIA+ in 2025

I don’t think that this is a subject I have leaned into enough amid my recent life experiences as of late. I have to admit that I have been feeling reminiscent to the pandemic, during which time I became hyper fixated on the news and allowed it to negatively impact my mental health and overall anxiety.

For those of you reading this, it is important for me to make the following statement as clear as I can. I am speaking from my own experiences as a white skinned gay man on a new journey of indigeneity to reconnect with my Métis heritage. I cannot and will not speak on behalf of the Trans, BIPOC, Indigenous, and others in my community as their lived experiences are their own. I simply feel it’s important to perhaps touch on this subject in light of the world we are living in so that you might give the subject some thought if you are on the outside looking in.

3 artists that should be on your radar this Pride Month

I reached a few big milestones in my career this year and have been so proud of all my hard work to get here, and of course have shared my gratitude for the people who helped along the way. It’s one of the reasons why I started The Hand That Helped. It’s also why I continue to believe that offering creators, performers, and artists just starting in their career my platform is so important, because that would have meant the world to me when I first started.

So as we go into a busy Pride month, I thought I would celebrate Pride Month with the Queer artists making waves in the First Up with RBCxMusic program.

Inside Out and Upside Down

The more I think about 2020, the more I realize the importance of finding inspiration and joy in the sings. A meal with a friend (safely at a distance) that I haven’t seen in a long time. A walk with Canela in the park to soak up the colours of the season. A workout for me because I deserve the time for myself. And of course the arts and film, which have always been such a source of emotional catharsis for me.
