When I look back on 2016, I quickly realize how much I have traveled for the blog with amazing brands and experiences around the world. My very first trip to New York City is one of the most amazing experiences of the year both personally and professionally. Yes, at thirty two years old, I had never been to The Big Apple and when I was presented with the opportunity to do just that with Belvedere Vodka, I knew that it would change my life forever. I am so inspired by my experience and am sharing some of my favourite moments with my favourite vodka.
So why New York you ask? To celebrate the launch of (BELVEDERE)RED I was invited to join members of the media from around the world for an intimate experience where, over the few days I had to enjoy the energy of New York City, I got to learn about the importance of the (BELVEDERE)RED program, John Legend’s involvement and the inspiring artist Esther Mahlangu. I even had the honour of meeting Esther, a celebrated Ndebele artist from South Africa, whose vibrant and powerful artwork will be seen throughout the #MAKETHEDIFFERENCE campaign.
With 50% of profits being donated to fight AIDS in Africa, this limited edition bottle is not only a piece of art but a crucial piece in the fight to end AIDS. I was so moved by the intense passion of Belvedere Vodka and the #MAKETHEDIFFERENCE campaign. I have already purchased several bottles for the holidays as gifts that give back, plus a few to enjoy a much needed martini after those long days.
Flying into New York, I saw the silhouette of The Statue of Liberty and was almost moved to tears. New York was always just “another city” in my mind before this trip but landing there and seeing it in real life was a moving experience. I found myself being a very evident tourist, staring up at the buildings in awe and people watching, as though I were living in a movie. From the beautiful Quin Hotel in Manhattan, to the intimate Ndebele painting class led by Esther herself, I am left a better person for the experience.
The entire trip culminated in an incredible VIP experience at The ‘One Night for Life’ benefit in New York at the iconic Apollo Theater. Rubbing shoulders with celebrities and philanthropists, I was moved by the power one bottle can have on the world as a whole in the fight to end HIV/AIDS.
I also can say with certainty that John Legend is probably one of the most incredible artists to watch sing live. When he took the stage, the room went quiet and we all were in awe of the power of his voice and his message of change. “One simple action can make a world of difference, that touches millions of lives all the way around the world” John says in the video above. That has stuck with me since my trip to New York and will continue to inspire me for the rest of my life.
Here are a few of my personal favourite moments in the big city that I had the pleasure of enjoying thanks to my favourite vodka. Now I know that not only are they dedicated to quality vodka, but also in helping to change the world one bottle at a time.
This year has been amazing and full of lessons, both good and bad. But I know that in one small action, I can #MAKETHEDIFFERENCE along with (BELVEDERE)RED
