For those of you who know Julio & I, you will know that we are desperately wanting to get a dog to add to our little family. That’s one of the main reasons why I was so excited to be invited to attend the Dog Tales Rescue and Sanctuary launch event on October 19th in King City (north of Toronto). Although I was flying solo for the event (Catherine & Amanda were en route to Ottawa while Julio had a photoshoot that afternoon), I was by no means lonely. With over 500 guests and friends we celebrated this incredible concept in the most star studded way. Come and see what I mean and why you shop #AdoptNotShop with Dog Tales Rescue and Sanctuary!
Sunday afternoon arrived on a cool autumn day and off I went to King City. For those of you who are unaware, this area north of Toronto is positively beautiful. Countryside and farms all within an hour commute of the city core. Upon arrival at the Dog Tales grounds I immediately fell in love with the scenery and energy of it all. I’m starting to sound like Catherine…
“Dog Tales Rescue & Sanctuary is a one-of-a-kind, animal shelter located in King City, Ontario. Founded by animal lovers and passionate animal right supporters Rob Scheinberg and Danielle Eden, Dog Tales is a place where dogs can run, explore and learn how to be happy dogs again while they wait for permanent homes. The grounds are also home Horse Haven, a shelter for retired professional racehorses. For more information, visit dogtales.ca.”
Now, it could just have all ended with a tour of the grounds and playing with the beautiful dogs that I almost rounded up onto the bus to take home with me… but no. This event is most likely my favourite of 2014. And that’s saying a LOT considering how many events we attend.
From the chandeliers to the beautiful foliage.. no detail was left unattended. As I sipped bubbly and mingled with some of the most influential people in Toronto I felt completely at home. A strange feeling but one that truly embodies the space and the concept behind Dog Tales Rescue and Sanctuary.
My favourite parts from my visit included performances from the one & only Jewel, Juno Award winners Sam Roberts Band and winner of a 2013 Classic BRIT Award, the incredibly beautiful and talented Nicola Benedetti. Music, food, drinks… and most importantly, rescued dogs looking for a good home.
As a side bar, Jewel has been one of my favourite artists for years. Her presence at the event helped to show her love for animals and the ethical treatment they deserve. Her voice was positively captivating and I stood in the middle of hundreds of guests entirely transfixed on this incredible artist and human being. A magical moment that I will always associate with Dog Tales Rescue and Sanctuary and for that I am forever grateful.
“To help rescued dogs find new loving and caring families, the one-of-a-kind shelter for lost, abused and neglected dogs and retired professional racehorses will open its doors to the public in November 2014 and will host weekly Sunday adoptions.”
One of the best parts of the space is actually that even dog owners and those of you looking to make a decision based upon when you meet the right dog are encouraged to visit the grounds every Sunday. Families, friends, animals and a beautiful backdrop. That sounds like a pretty perfect Sunday to me and I’m sure this won’t be the last time you see me visiting the grounds.
Not to mention the fact that I fell in love with Nappa the Bullmastiff. He followed me around once we met and who couldn’t love that face!
