As some of you may already know, I had the amazing experience of getting to cross a bucket list destination off this month by getting to visit Tokyo for the very first time. And let me tell you, the trip is one that I will remember for the rest of my life. However, before I took off, I was a little worried about visiting for the first time. I’ve traveled plenty of times before, but going to a city alone where English is far from the primary language and I also had little to no Japanese vocabulary of my own, can be a little intimidating. But the moment I got to the MOXY Tokyo Kinshicho, I knew that my worries of not being able to communicate were immediately going to be put to rest.
Located in Kinshicho, it’s easy to cross the major sights off your list like the Tokyo Skytree, Imperial Palace, Sensoji Temple and even discover new places on your own. From the moment I stepped through the quirky and colourful pink lipped sliding doors, I knew I was staying in a place that not only catered to the fun, quirky and colour-loving aspect of who I am, but a place that was welcoming of both locals and foreigners alike. It really focused on delivering an exceptional and unique customer experience for whomever walked through their doors.
For starters, when walking in, you are welcomed by fun music and modern interior design. Making a slight left, to make your way to the front desk – which also happens to be the main bar of the hotel itself. Surrounding the front desk, is a games area lined with foosball, video games, board game tables as well as a giant television playing a rotation of bright coloured and fun media. My personal favourite touch about the front lobby was, without a doubt, the giant wall made of toys, dolls, Barbies, teddy bears and everything you could imagine. It was on a care-free colour pop toy installation and in front of it sits a giant life sized purple teddy bear ready for any Instagram-worthy photo op your fun-loving heart can conjure up.
After check in, I made my way upstairs to my room for the next few days. Which like the main floor, is decorated in a modern and playful way with quirky little touches like printed pillows, fun framed wall art as well as a highlighter orange ringer phone inspired telephone in the room. The bathroom was a dream come true, especially for a boy like me who loves to travel with a bunch of products. Not only did it include a very roomy rain shower and an extremely high-tech toilet, that virtually has every flush and cleaning option one can imagine, but it also had neon pink details for all their soaps, bottles and amenities including a neon pink hairdryer.
All in all, the MOXY Tokyo Kinshicho was unlike any other hotel I’ve ever stayed in before. A place where your uniqueness, playfulness and rebel-spirit are encouraged to come out. But it’s also a place where, if you plan on a purely relaxing vacation to Tokyo, then you are also definitely checking into the right place!
