Events | TELUS Day of Giving & the ability to #givewherewelive

Making a difference and giving back is a huge part of the DoTheDaniel.com team as we expand cross country and internationally. In my opinion, it is absolutely necessary to actively give back to my community, my city and my country using the tools and brands I work with so intimately. I am honoured to tell you all about the 9th annual  TELUS Day of Giving taking place on May 31st across Canada and to announce that Julio & I will be volunteering to #givewherewelive. From coast to coast, 700 volunteer activities with over 15,000 TELUS employees and volunteers will come together to unite us all in one amazing cause.

There is something to be said about the difference one act of kindness or one gesture of good will can make. When I recently came across Melissa Raven’s TELUS blog post I was moved to say the least. I think that sometimes we all get so busy that we forget how easy it is to make the life of someone else so much better even with just one day of volunteering.

By far, TELUS has one of the best corporate responsibility ideals I have ever come across. “Since its inception in 2006, TELUS Day of Giving has mobilized more than 79,000 Canadian team members, retirees, family and friends to volunteer at over 2,150 activities benefiting the communities where we live, work and serve. That adds up to more than 238,000 hours volunteer hours.” That is impressive and inspiring for every single Canadian, be they the volunteer or the person who benefits on the other side.

So early on Saturday morning Julio & I will be doing our part and volunteering in the city of Toronto alongside all of the TELUS staff and volunteers. TELUS Day of Giving in Toronto is going to be a day full of great memories I have no doubt. Since 2000, TELUS has contributed over $37 Million to charitable and community organizations in the GTA. This year two of the volunteering programs taking place (of the over 50 taking place in the city!) that have me excited for the possibility of making a difference are listed below.

The first will be store merchandising at New Circles (a not-for-profit social service agency that helps residents of Flemingdon Park, Thorncliffe Park and Victoria Village who need support. It focuses on three pillars: clothing, connections and community.) The second will be where you will find Julio & I from 9:00am – noon at The Stop Community Food Centre We will quite literally be getting our hands dirty to help plant and compost and offer some general maintenance to prepare for the upcoming seasons and need for their programming. If you’re in the city on Saturday morning, I encourage you to come by and say hello. Or visit the TELUS Day of Giving website to see where your local volunteering will be taking place.

For those of you who can’t stop by, please make sure to follow along on social media with @TELUS, @FASHIONIGHTS & @DoTheDaniel while we #givewherewelive and share all the fun!
