Following on our adventures via Instagram – specifically Instagram stories – is a really good way to see how busy we are but also how much fun we have doing what we do best. At the end of the day, building #DoTheDaniel has taken me five years of blood, sweat and tears. But amid all of those things, there has been so much more laughter, love & life. December is always a bit of an introspective month for me where I start to look back on the lessons I have learnt over the year in order to ensure I go into the new year as the best version of myself. This past weekend I had the pleasure of heading home to Montreal with BELVEDERE, and it was one of my favourite experiences of the year. A quick in-and-out that allowed me the opportunity to connect with incredible people, eat some incredible food, dance like no one was watching, and laugh more than I have in a very long time. There is something to be said about experiences and moments like that, even if they are brief, and I’m happy for the chance to share it with you all. Continue reading “Moments That Make Me Smile”
There Is So Much To Smile About
Well, it’s officially December and 2018 is coming to a close in a few short weeks. With the holidays to look forward to, I’ve been giving the year a lot of thought. After a pretty emotional few days remembering my Dad with family – while simultaneously traveling a lot for work – I am sitting down to remember why there is so much to smile about. I think sometimes we all can get stuck in a “good riddance” mentality, but even if the year was a challenging one, I hope that you come to a point before NYE where you realize that every lesson you have been faced with had helped to make you into the person you are today. And sometimes, the best thing you can give the universe on a challenging day is a smile. Continue reading “There Is So Much To Smile About”
What Good Friends Are Made Of
I think of my favourite parts about #DoTheDaniel is sharing stories and experiences that I am lucky enough to have with friends and loved ones around the world. We have done so much travel this year, and I am itching to get back to the airport for another adventure. Recently our friends at St. Rémy Brandy launched a contest for YOU to enter (before December 12th) for a chance to win a trip for you and three friends. I’ve already entered the contest and encourage you all to take a minute to do the same – come see how easy it is to win such an amazing experience! Continue reading “What Good Friends Are Made Of”
Enough Is Enough
The end of November has for the last few years been a difficult time for me personally. With the anniversary of losing my Dad in 2016, I find myself in a state of heightened self-awareness and willingness to be more compassionate. Not that I’m not those things during the rest of the year, but it is a bit more important because that moment in my life changed me forever. Over the last ten years (specifically as a gay man) I have come to meet some spectacular people who have revealed to me their stories about living with HIV/AIDS. Where is the correlation you ask? Well, for a long time finding out you were positive was a moment that meant your life as you knew it was over. Over the aforementioned decade, the medical advances made in the treatment of those living with HIV/AIDS has allowed it to become similar to living with diabetes. Leading up to World AIDS Day on December 1st, I found out that a recent survey revealed that “almost half of (the) people in North America say they would not be comfortable sharing skin-to-skin touch with someone who is HIV+.”
I normally do my best to keep my language in check here on the blog, so please understand the severity of the following statement.
That is not fucking okay.
