My family never really focused too much on gift giving during the holidays. We usually made our way to Nigerian Christmas Parties, visited the homes of our parents’ friends, connected through conversation and dancing to traditional music while stuffing our faces with tons of food. Sometimes our holidays involved going to places around the city such as the theatres or museums where we could learn something new. My parents really focused on family time and in respect to Nigerian culture, getting together and enjoying each other’s company made a world of difference and still does. While I was in the swing of the holidays, I really want the new year to be about creating memories with the people who have a positive energy, places that bring out the best in you through positivity and presence and food.

Now that December is well underway, I am still reminiscing on some amazing moments from the last year of our lives here at DoTheDaniel.com. With so many to pick from, it’s important for me to remind myself how incredibly lucky I am to have this platform to share with you all – and how amazing it is that I have had it for almost five years. As we draw nearer to 2019 and our fifth birthday as a blog in January, I am so happy about the return of the rejuvenated #DanielsDish.
From where it all started, five years later things are coming full circle for me and the blog in the best ways possible.

Well, it’s officially December and 2018 is coming to a close in a few short weeks. With the holidays to look forward to, I’ve been giving the year a lot of thought. “Life Finds A Way”
The year is 1993 and I am ten years old. In grade five, I ask my parents if I can go to a movie with my best friend at the theatre which is a half an hour drive, and am shocked when they give me permission to go at 8pm on a school night. Feeling like a cool teenager, I prepare myself for one of the most exciting nights that I will always remember. Looking back now, that same excitement still happens when I go see a film that I am looking forward to. I guess I never lost my love of cinema and it seems as though that memorable night 25 years ago has come full circle. All these years later, as I prepare to go see Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park tonight at TIFF Lightbox, I am most excited about the upcoming series which starts on December 21st just in time for the holidays. One of the most influential directors of all time is being featured over the holidays with some of his most iconic films and I cannot wait to buy tickets to bring my friends and family over the holidays in between dinner parties and gift wrapping!
