As another day is about to start here in Mexico, I wanted to take the time to tell you all about Day 2 our of adventures. For those of you who have been following @Fashionights & @DoTheDaniel on social media, you’ll have gotten a behind the scenes look at our #HelloExperience with Booking Hello and Catalonia Hotels & Resorts. Our things are unpacked and we are now essentially moved into the beautiful Royal Tulum Beach & Spa Resort. In an effort to keep up with all the exciting things we have been doing, I’ll be recounting each day in it’s own feature!
Waking up in a deluxe suite with the Caribbean sun is something you simply have to experience for yourself. After sleeping like a baby, Julio & I woke to greet our first full day exploring the hotel and its amenities.
We met up with our new friends and proceeded to Alegria Spa. Located conveniently between the poool and the ocean, it’s allows you to find the best way to pamper yourself. Either a workout in the morning or a couples massages at sunset, it’s great space to let yourself truly unwind. You deserve it!
“Let us pamper you! Try the different paths we offer you, through different sensations and aromas, to discover the harmonious nature of your inner and outer beauty. The resort maintains a complete spa with a personal consultant and facilities to help you relax. You’ll find steam areas such as the sauna, steam room and jacuzzi, as well as treatment facilities such as hydrotherapy, immersion and massage booths. Once you’ve tried it, you’ll never find a better place to unwind.”
After a tour at the spa and booking several couples experiences for Julio & I (some things have to stay private after all!) we proceeded to the beach side restaurant on the resort, BLoved. One of several restaurants on the resort to choose from, I couldn’t resist the call of the ocean. Catherine would be so proud! I even ordered a spinach smoothie in an attempt to counterbalance the ‘couple of drinks’ we had already enjoyed since arriving! Served with Huevos Rancheros, and I was in foodie heaven.
Now that we were fed and rejuvenated by our surroundings, it was time to take an excursion to see the Tulum Ruins – ancient Mayan temples located not far from the hotel. As far as excursions go, this one got me excited for the history and culture of the area and it’s surroundings. Not to mention, if we were to get technical, they are also Julio’s ancestors. It didn’t take us long to be amazed by the scope of the temples, even if it felt as though the sun was trying to melt me.
“Each Mayan city had a specific purpose, and Tulum was no exception. It was a seaport, trading mainly in turquoise and jade. As well as being the only Mayan city built on a coast, Tulum was one of the few protected by a wall. Made of limestone, the 784-metre wall encloses the site on three sides, is seven metres thick, and varies between three and five metres in height. No doubt this fortification helped preserve the seaport.”
And by the time we had walked around for a few minutes, we clearly got into a photoshoot with Julio. For those of you who know us, this will not come as a surprise. But based on the beautiful photo above, I’d say it was well worth it!
In need of refreshment and a break from the sun, we headed back towards our taxi pick up. For those of you worried about traveling into Mexico, I can assure you that it’s perfectly safe in the area if you educate yourself and use the tools available to you. Booking Hello & Catalonia Royal Tulum are there to help you book these excursions and visits, including organizing taxis for you if you need assistance. It was so important for me as someone who loves to travel to get out and see the ruins and the country. The resort is an incredible oasis, but there is so much more to Mexico.
Also, I would just like to point out that I think the Starbucks coffee tastes better here. Just saying.
Back to the hotel we went for a quick jump in the pool to cool off, get changed and grab some dinner. This time, we decided to try Terrace Tapas & Lounge Bar. The atmosphere was so romantic at night with low chairs and tables amid cobblestone and palm trees. We ate from the playful menu and sipped on sparkling wine as we recounted the day’s adventures together. Perfect for a romantic dinner or a great stop for lunch on your way out of the resort to explore.
This is where things get fuzzy for me. Three times a week, the resort throws a Beach / Pool party for the guests to enjoy. Intrigued, Julio & I thought it would be a perfect way to end the day. And it was a LOT of fun! Dancers, a DJ and swimming in the starlight… the problem was that we may have indulged a little too much. I remember having a lot of fun, but that’s about all I remember towards the end of the night. Stay tuned for Day 3 and how I started the day more hungover than I have felt in about 10 years!
