As many of you may have already heard, I recently moved from Toronto after ten amazing years – click here for all the details. While I will of course miss living in the big city, the reason I left was to put into place a real plan (and budget) for us to start our family. And while many of us still live with a lot of uncertainties in our day-to-day lives, there is one thing that I am 100% certain of.
I am willing to change my entire life to go the extra mile and have children with my husband.
So, I guess we can chat about doing just that this past weekend. Julio and I hired moved, packed up our entire life, and made the drive to Ottawa in a brand new Kia K5 thanks to Kia Canada. The extra mile, or “going the extra difference” part of it all is that it’s not that simple. I also just drove back to Toronto in that same vehicle to drop Julio off. Because, as we have both spoken candidly about online, we’re about to do the long distance thing for a while.
Not for any other reason than that it makes the most financial sense while we save aggresively for children. Now, I know what a lot of you are thinking. That’s going to be rough.
And you’re right. It’s not my favourite thing we’ve ever decided to do, but Julio has a great job here and I have a great job there, and together our great incomes make a real plan. Is it the easiest path to starting our family? Absolutely not. I still get emotional thinking about having to leave for the first time in a few days and say goodbye for at least a few weeks to both my husband and my dog. That’s going to be hard. But living without children for the rest of my life would be far more difficult and I’m not going to give up on making that a reality.
So that leaves me in a bit of a pickle because we don’t own a car yet. I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, chances are based on the work I’ve been lucky enough to do with Kia Canada over the years, chances are that I’ll buy one of their vehicles this year. Not only to get back to Toronto to visit, but to get around the city of Ottawa. I can still say that the Seltos holds the keys to my heart, but driving the K5 really made me question that love.
It’s sleek design is nothing short of eye-catchingly sexy. We noticed people looking at the car all weekend long when we grabbed coffee or some groceries (safely of course) – and I don’t blame them for staring.
I guess it makes sense that the K5 got me excited since its the first ever of its kind, it’s got all the bells and whistles (Collision Avoidance Assist, wireless Apple Car Play® and Android Auto™) you would want in a sleek sedan, and it’s got enough room for Canela and a car seat. Ticks all the boxes on my to do list when it comes to car shopping! But of course there’s a lot more.
This is a great vehicle for busy adventurers – it is perfect for daily life while also extending its functionality to adventuring beyond city-limits. It was incredibly good on gas (we made it from Toronto to Ottawa and drove around all weekend on one tank), it fit luggage for the weekend and our day-to-day items, wireless mobile charging, the sound system was incredible and we sang along at the top of our lungs. The car just intuitively felt like everything was where it was supposed to be to optimize my drive experience. Sounds cheesy, but I dare you to get behind the wheel of the Kia K5 and not feel the exact same way.
So while I debate between a Seltos and a K5 as our ever-growing family’s vehicle of choice, I encourage those of you on your own adventures this year (be they big like mine or smaller in nature) to check out the #KiaK5 by heading to the Kia Canada Website. And of course stay tuned as I continue to share more vehicles and content with the Kia Canada team all year long. I may be up the 401 from my husband for the time being, but I’ll go the distance for us and our future kids any day of the week.
Now more than ever, to join in the social media conversation going on with some of the most Instagramable and family memories on the road with Julio and Canela. Make sure to follow @KiaCanada on Instagram and Twitter, and by ‘Liking’ their Facebook Page.
