The World is Waiting For You

Is anyone else amazed that we are already in October? It feels as though 2018 has flown by, and along with it, some incredible experiences that we have been able to share with you all. As you’ll remember, earlier this year we announced that for another year we are proud partners with Capital One Canada. Not only because we love the experiences they have helped curate for us from coast-to-coast in Canada, but also because both Catherine & I are active cardholders in our personal lives. Today I wanted to discuss some of the exciting evens that we’ve attended recently, as well as how I am planning my next adventure with the right card for me.

Let’s take a walk down memory lane for a few minutes. It should be noted that I travel a lot for us and the blog, and it’s one of my favourite parts of my job. But there are some destinations that I simply had never gotten around to over the last five years. It’s not great to admit, but a lot of Canada has remained unexplored for me – including Vancouver up until recently thanks to Capital One Canada.

When I found out that I would be headed to the West Coast for the first time ever, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I always use the best credit cards to build credit and I knew that with there would be a lot of purchases on this trip like food and accommodation, so it’s a great opportunity to build some credit. I knew that on top of my monthly credit card payment, I would need to make a bit of room for hotel rooms and dining out at some incredible restaurants. Using the Capital One App, I made sure to make room on my card (yes, I carry a balance like most of you do. And that’s okay!) I checked to ensure that I was ready to head off to see one of my favourite bands ever.

Arriving in Vancouver for the first time was one of the most magical moments for me, and one I will never forget. After meeting Vancouver Contributor Josh for the first time (a lot of people don’t realize that while we have staff around the world and I love them all, I hadn’t met them all before this moment based on geographical distance) and exploring the city I got to see The Foo Fighters perform live. If you have not had the chance to do so, the next time you hear they are coming to city near you, I highly encourage it. OR start planning with your Capital One Canada credit card to spoil yourself with a trip, a hotel stay, and a musical experience that will change your life like this one did mine.

Fast forward a few weeks to Elevate Techfest in Toronto – an annual event that takes place in Toronto.

“Elevate is a city-wide tech and innovation festival centered in North America’s fastest growing tech ecosystem. An essential destination for global professionals, tech leaders, investors, and creatives, the event features inspiring keynotes, topical content streams, experiential programming, and epic socials.” Capital One Canada made sure to make this year’s festival one of the most incredible! Having had a chance to check out some of the talks, and of course the Capital One House (an immersive food & drink experience that showed Capital One cardholders what it meant to attend an EPIC event in Canada!), I am still smiling.

I wanted to share some of the amazing experiences we, and some of our favourite members of the media, had to share throughout the festival. Check them out below.

ELEVATE MY MIND . I took part in one of the newest and innovative festivals to arrive in Toronto, Elevate. It’s a four day, city-wide “tech fest” that is a diverse and inclusive event that features inspiring keynotes, topical content streams, experiential programming, and epic socials. As a Creative, I was joined by global professionals, tech leaders, investors, and many more looking to learn, network and negotiate in the ongoing and growing digital landscape. But @elevatetechfest isn’t just about auditorium discussions and celebrity speakers. There was ample room to connect and socialize in a lighter atmosphere such as the first-ever Capital One House in Canada created at Baro on King West. During my experience at the venue, I took in delightful tapas and cold beverages, engaged in interactive installations and let loose with old and new friends. The musical lineup rivaled its SXSW counterpart with headliner Majid Jordan and local performances by Bravestation. FULL STORY AT THE LINK IN MY BIO. . . . We were treated to a media cocktail class (check out our Capital One highlight on our Instagram account for a good laugh. Turns out Catherine MAY not be the best bartender after all!) and a preview of the Brave Station concert that took place later that night for cardholders and festival attendees. I ended up dancing the night away and had the most fun I’ve had in a very long time.

While I have to admit that attending these incredible events has been some of my favourite moments of the year, it’s important that I say that my personal adventures take place in large part to having a Capital One Canada credit card in my wallet. But what card is right for me and why? It’s been a few years since I applied for my own credit card on www.capitalone.ca but there is such a great tool to find the right card for you and your goals. If I had to apply for a card today, I think I would opt for The Aspire Travel™ Platinum Mastercard® because I travel so much. I still carry my Guaranteed Mastercard® because when I was applying for a card, I was looking to rebuild my credit. There are options for people of many walks of life, and the website is great tool to help you find the right one for yourself. Today I use my Capital One Credit card to plan my adventures, my personal travel, and my experiences with Do The Daniel around the world.

So whether you’re planning a trip to see your favourite band, or you’re the kind of person who gets excited about conferences like Elevate Tech Fest, Capital One Canada has the right card to help you get there. I hope that I’ve inspired you to go out and explore what makes you happy using the right card for you.
