With life as busy as it is, sometimes I think we all forget how important it is to make a difference in the lives of others when the opportunity presents itself. When I was recently introduced to the idea of Food Revolution Day, I’ll be honest and say that I had no idea what it was. But now that I know, I want you all to know as well so that YOU can make a difference too.
In teaming up with celebrity chef Jamie Oliver and The Jamie Oliver Food Foundation (Both US and UK), over 74 countries are taking part in this Global Day of Action which is meant to bring the love for healthy food back for the youth of the world and encourage healthy eating in light of shocking statistics. In partnership with Sobey’s, www.betterfoodforall.com shows that “only 31% of 18 to 29 year olds feel confident in the kitchen versus 48% of those 50 and older, and as a result, Canadians are increasingly turning to processed food as part of their daily diet.”
So, how can you get involved? Head to www.betterfoodforall.com where all Canadians will be able to register their own personal potluck event, find and provide healthy cooking tips and help to raise awareness for people and youth around the world to help promote better eating and nutrition awareness. And the best part is that through this all, Sobeys will be donating to the Children’s Aid Foundation in support of cooking workshops for kids across Canada.
Why is this so important? As the Food Revolution Day website states, “With diet-related illness rising at an alarming rate, it has never been more important to educate people about food and how to cook it.”
Singing up is easy and simple. Just click here.
So come join the social media conversation with Twitter and Instagram posts. For every post using the #FRD2014 and #potluckchallenge hashtags, @Sobeys will donate to The Children’s Aid Foundation on your behalf. The time is now for you and your recipes, knowledge and love of food to make a difference.
Tag @DoTheDaniel in your posts as well so that I can share along with all your amazing ideas, recipes and thoughts. And ofcourse, remember to follow along with me on Instagram for my adventures.
