I saw Frozen The Musical, and here’s what I really thought

If you’ve had children of your own, or have been around children since 2013 when Disney first released Frozen, you’ll know the words to “Let it Go” and “In Summer” off by heart. It was absolutely everywhere, and I know that I was a super fan back then alongside friends and family. When movies are made into musicals, I often wonder if the same magic gets translated into sets, special effects, and costume design.

Last night I was invited to the premiere of Frozen The Musical at The National Arts Centre in Ottawa by Broadway Across Canada, and here is what I really thought about it.

I couldn’t have loved it more.

C’mon, you had to have known that a Broadway musical about self-acceptance, overcoming adversity, family, and love would have struck my heartstrings.

The North American tour is well underway and last night it arrived in Ottawa to rave reviews and standing ovations.

“FROZEN, after melting hearts on Broadway, began its North American Tour in Hollywood in 2019, with the LA Daily News proclaiming, “It’s simply magical.” The production, complete with amazing special effects and spectacular sets and costumes, mesmerizes audiences of all ages. It features music and lyrics by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, as well as standout performances, including a showstopping rendition of “Let It Go” and Anna and Elsa’s emotional duet, “I Can’t Lose You,” a song written exclusively for the national tour. “

Did I laugh? Absolutely.

Did I cry? OF COURSE.

Do I want to see it again? Given the chance, 100%.

This is the musical theatre experience that will make you feel all of the emotion you once did when watching Disney’s Frozen, while simultaneously being the immersive experience the newcomers to the story will fall in love with.
