As we enter into Phase 3 safely, a lot of Torontonians (myself included) may be feeling a bit lost in our own city. While you’ve seen how I have been traveling safely – and of course how today I downloaded the COVID alert app which I encourage you all to do – I wanted to tell you how I plan to fall in love with my city all over again and how you can do the same.
The topic of travel, and especially that of staycations is nothing new for me here on the blog. From our recent trip to Niagara with our #BubbleBuddies, to realizing all the places I am excited to safely visit again, it only seems appropriate that we stay at a hotel to kick off a romantic weekend in the heart of the city.
So, first thing’s first, you’ll need a hotel that’s walking distance to everything Toronto’s renewed downtown core has to offer. We of course opt for fully equipped suites with spectacular views, direct subway & PATH connection. One King West Hotel is and has always been a spectacular building to admire from the exterior, and things get spectacular when you walk in to check in to your safely prepared room.
Then of course, you’re back downtown. What to do? Obviously the Toronto waterfront is a beautiful area to enjoy while wearing your masks when physical distancing isn’t possible. From Sugar Beach to St. Lawrence Market, or a short streetcar ride to The Distillery District, there is a lot to see and do on a summer’s day. And so many businesses excited to see our return – that part makes me the most excited!
We of course love walking around the city core, seeing what patios are open and what attractions are ready to welcome guests. This weekend we will be taking advantage of the RIPLEY’S AQUARIUM PACKAGE which not only has a beautiful room waiting for me to check in to, but gets us access to the aquarium too. The city is ready for us, and slowly we will be ready for the city. Why not fall in love with everything Toronto has to offer?
There’s also something to be said for staying in a robe, cuddling and not getting out of bed. Or maybe you need some alone time? I’ve traveled solo and sometimes a room, a meal and a good night’s sleep is exactly what you need to reset. I think a lot of us could use a reset right about now, so I encourage you to consider a staycation in your own city too.
Of course it wouldn’t be an ode to Toronto if I didn’t talk about food. Physically dinning in restaurants is back as of today, and after doing my research, I know that I can do so safely with Julio while we relax and take some time away from our busy schedules.
One of Toronto’s best spots to eat is at Teller’s Bar & Lounge – so you don’t even need to go far once you’ve checked in. Indulge, order the dessert and remember that you deserve to spoil yourself sometimes too. It’s been a long year, and it’s time to enjoy yourself.
“The bar not only incorporates historical pieces, such as the original Dominion Bank’s teller wickets into the design, but ensures a comfortable and safe dining experience with enhanced cleanliness and safety measures in place. Learn more here.”
So what am I trying to say? The only way to fall in love with Toronto again is to get out into it’s streets, hotels, restaurants and businesses again safely. To see the sights that will make your heart flutter. To remember that romantic weekends can be had right here. And that we are going to be okay, one day at a time, as long as we keep it up.
