Changing The Way Things Are Framed

As of late you’ll realize that I have gone all kinds of introspective. Sometimes when life gives you a good shake and you need to put things back together, that can happen. But it also seems as though a lot of my friends are feeling this way too. I’m not 100% sure what happened to 2018 – the year we all said “would be different” – but it’s been a doozy. Ups and downs are always going to be a part of this beautiful chaos we call life, and sometimes I have to remind myself that I can only control my reaction to it all. Lately I have been trying my best to focus on the beautiful moments, people, and memories that have led me to where I am today. And I have been trying my very best to change the way I frame things.

I owe that pun about glasses to Catherine, which has us both still laughing. Sometimes we can be witty and silly which is one of my favourite parts of my relationship with her. She, like a good pair of glasses, helps me to see the world clearly. At 35 years old, I have been wearing glasses for a VERY long time. Earlier in life, it was more for reading, but now I find myself struggling to get through the day if I forget them at home.

It’s been several years since I was first introduced to Montreal based BonLook and their concept of beautiful frames with prices that everyone can afford. Since that first pair of clear frames (which I still own and love), I have evolved my aesthetic with numerous BonLook frames and styles. From the iconic white frames from the #BonLookTO collection – featuring frames created in collaboration with some incredible Toronto based creatives – to the latest pair I am anxiously waiting on to arrive at their CF Toronto Eaton Centre location hopefully this week, glasses have always been a fun way to switch things up in my life.

Similar to my physical appearance changing with the change in my – read addition of – fitness goals, to the hair colour change after eighteen months of being blond, my new frames help me feel as though I am a new version of me. Funny how the simple things in life can make the biggest difference for someone like me.

So why now? Well. I’ve been really trying to alter the way I look at things both literally and figuratively. Sometimes I think it is easy to see the negative in the world, whereas it takes practise to focus on the good that surrounds us. With my return to dark hair centered around this new perspective, my newest tattoo and what it means to me, it just felt like the right time. It also helps that BonLook glasses are incredibly affordable and I can now add these new frames into my collection of frames I have ordered both online and in store over the years.

One of the things I am learning about myself as I get older, is that it’s okay to take care of myself more. My eyes aren’t getting any better and having glasses that not only help me see the world, but make me feel like I am expressing myself is something that a few years ago I would have never considered. Cost effective ways of expressing myself are awesome and BonLook tops my list when it comes to ways I use to feel more like myself, day after day.

For those of you curious about the frames I chose above for my new eyeglasses – click here. Tortoise shell is something new for me and I can’t wait for you to see them on our social media accounts very soon. And of course, I had to pick myself up a pair of prescription sunglasses (RIP white #BonLookTO sunglasses that got crushed by the subway here in Toronto in a series of unfortunate events) click here.

If you are also looking for a change, or just something that helps to express who you are today I encourage you to check out the BonLook website or head into your nearest location. The holiday collection (which I was lucky enough to preview already) is coming soon and it might be the perfect time for you to reframe the way you see the world too.

I’ve said it before, and I will say it again, small changes make the biggest impact. A pair of BonLook glasses helped me look into the mirror and say “Nice to see you again Daniel.” – I hope they help you to feel the same way about yourselves.
