Have you ever hit the point where you realize you desperately need a vacation? Canadians are avid travelers and I’ve been fortunate enough to share beautiful destinations around the world with you all during our #DTDTravels. As March break approaches, I thought it only made sense to curate a list of my favourite Mexican destinations that you simply have to experience for yourself. Be it a romantic getaway for two (hint hint Julio!) or a family trip during March Break, come and see some of the best destinations available to you via Air Transat.
When it comes to Mexico, there are of course many areas of the country that can be experienced when looking for resort options. I have done my best to keep the following list of destinations to the geographical area of Riviera Maya, simply because it’s proven to be my personal favourite. You’ll remember many of them from our recent trip down south in 2016 where I was able to meet some incredible bloggers from across the country who may or may not of used something similar to the best instagram bot to increase their following. Together we had the pleasure of getting to see the best of the best, and I am excited to share with you all how you can experience them for yourself with those you love. Looking back at it now it would have been a nice idea to travel about using a 7 seater so we could fit everyone in plus all our baggage, an idea for next time maybe!
Here are the Top 8 resorts you simply have to experience for yourself as you ##ExperienceTransat in 2017
1. Finest Playa Mujeres by Excellence Group
Located just outside of Cancun, “Finest Playa Mujeres by Excellence Group is a modern and sophisticated beachfront resort in the Mexican Caribbean that will cater clients of all ages.” I was impressed by the amenities of this relatively new resort, including the fact that most of the rooms faced the ocean since it is located on a peninsula of sorts. The main lobby, as in common in the area, is breath taking (as seen below) and the restaurants offered some of the best food I have enjoyed in Mexico to date. There is an adult only section of the hotel for those of you looking for a more mature experience, which is always a good option to opt for if you’re looking for that romantic getaway you deserve. One Spa is an absolute must for those of you looking to unwind and I highly encourage you to book the hydrotherapy session – we did it as a group and all felt incredibly rejuvenated afterwards!

Nestled close to the hub of Cancun, “The Secrets The Vine Cancun Hotel is a beachfront property, on the spectacular beach of Cancun, approximately 14 km from the airport. This vibrant and chic resort offering Unlimited-Luxury® features 497 spacious rooms and suites in one 28-storey building.” This hotel offers an experience for those of you who love wine and want a vacation centered around an endless supply of beautiful bottles, meals and experiences. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a view like the one I had high in the sky above the beach. Not to mention a proper champagne sabering to start of our experience there. I would recommend this resort to those of you looking for an adult getaway since the hotel itself does cater to that demographic and experience.

3. Zoetry Villa Rolandi Isla Mujeres Cancun
Of all the resorts I have had the pleasure of visiting, this has to be the most grandiose and luxurious of all. I felt completely undisturbed during our stay and can assure you that no detail is overlooked when it comes to luxury at this resort. “The Grand Velas Riviera Maya Hotel in Riviera Maya is an extraordinary, upscale hotel located directly on the beach, approximately 35 km from the Cancun airport.” From the decadence of the rooms, to the private pools overlooking the beach, the five star dinning experiences, to the jungle excursions that you can book… this is what luxury travel is all about. When they say “Beyond All Inclusive, Beyond All Compare”, they absolutely mean it!

5. Azul Beach Resort The Fives Playa Del Carmen, by Karisma
Azul Fives is by far the largest resort I have ever had the pleasure of visiting, and to say I was impressed would be an understatement. “The Azul Fives a Gourmet Inclusive Resort Hotel in Riviera Maya is an exquisite upscale, service-oriented hotel located on a spectacular stretch of white sand beach, approximately 5 km from Playa del Carmen and 70 km from the Cancun airport.” Nestled into the adult portion of the grounds, I was in awe of the finishes in the room all the way to the friendly staff that we encountered during our stay. The main hub of the resort features restaurants and cafes, juice bars and lounging areas, all of which are positively stunning. This resort does offer a more energized vibes than other resorts in the are, and is perfect for families looking to get out of their routines back home. Which so many options for the children, you can immerse yourselves in the resort both together and separately – a nice break for the parents out there. I think my favourite part is that the resort is connected by an intricate system of pools, so you almost never have to get out of the water. For a water baby like me, I couldn’t have been happier!

6. Breathless Riviera Cancun Resort & Spa
Though this is a pretty bold statement, I’m going to say it anyways. Breathless Riviera Cancun has the best pool I have ever seen in Mexico to date. It is absolutely stunning and truly helped me to disconnect and relax when I needed it most. “The Breathless Riviera Cancun Resort & Spa is located directly beachfront and approximately 16 km from Cancun airport. Vibrant, chic and ultra-modern this new adults-only oasis offers all the benefits of Unlimited Luxury® and features 526 suites in 7 buildings.” The resort itself is divided into three main areas and offers three distinct experiences in each. It’s also perfect for those of you looking to book a business conference – something for me to make a mental note of when I need to take the whole #DoTheDaniel team away for a much needed break! Those of you looking to party and kick back will enjoy this resort – do NOT miss their infamous foam parties. Trust me!

This resort offers a quiet luxury as one of the most iconic in the area. A fun fact that I learned while we toured the space and amenities was that the Palafitos at El Dorado Maroma were the first in Latin America. For those of you who have never experienced a Palafito before, I highly recommend you book your stay at this resort should – but don’t worry, they have lots of beautiful rooms on land too! “The El Dorado Maroma in Riviera Maya is directly on Maroma Beach, approximately 3 km from Playa del Carmen and 53 km from the Cancun airport.” The elegance of the resort is meant to be subdued and not so flashy, so for those of you looking for a more quiet experience, this would be the best option for you. Maroma Beach is breath taking and offers more privacy than surrounding properties. Not to mention the incredible tropical vibes that you can immerse yourself in when you arrive to unwind.

8. Catalonia Royal Tulum Beach & Spa
It wouldn’t be a list of my favourite destinations in Mexico if it didn’t include Catalonia Royal Tulum – being that we’ve been twice before and are certain to return again! “The Catalonia Royal Tulum Beach & Spa Resort Hotel in Riviera Maya is directly on the tranquil beach of Xpu-Ha, approximately 25 km from Tulum, 25 km from Playa del Carmen, 75 km from the Cancun airport and 20 km from Theme Park Xcaret.” From it’s luxurious lobby leading all the way to the beach, this resort is Julio’s favourite in Mexico (though I haven’t brough him to the other seven yet. I’m working on it!) because of it’s proximity to Playa del Carmen and its amenities. You’ll remember we also told you about Rauxa, a dinner show that you simply must experience for yourself when you stay at this resort or ones close by!
