Lately the seasonal change and rainy weather have been taking their toll on me. The summer and early fall foliage fed my soul and creative energies. As of late, as I chatted about recently in this post, I’ve been feeling a bit stuck. I think the upcoming colder months and the need to disconnect haven’t helped, and I finally realized maybe it’s time I did something about it and went somewhere to reset and refocus.
Living in Ottawa by the river has reminded me how important it is for me to be close to nature and trees. Even that is not anywhere near enough because it’s usually early in the morning or after work walking Canela while I’m playing Pokemon Go or answering emails.
It’s not the put the phone down, go for a hike for two hours, kiss my husband in the woods and sip on a thermos of wine we took with us. And snacks for Julio because he is always eating…
Earlier this year the team at Somewhere Inn Calabogie reached out about the idea of inviting Julio and I up for a visit. As our lives and schedules are hard to navigate and we all have seen how much travel we have crammed into this year all things considering. All that to say the moment passed, but the inspiration didn’t.
As seen above, Tristan and Hawley from SidewalkHustle.com (still one of my all time favourite outlets and two of the most amazing people) made their way up and we all, me included need this destination on the long road we’ve been on over the past few years.
Here’s what a trip to Somewhere Inn can mean for me. Disconnect for a day or two amid a life where I live and work twice as hard as I used to.
“Our cabin-inspired rooms are designed for mellow mornings, complete with fireplaces, soaker tubs and sleep-in-worthy beds. And we are purposefully analog (yep, no TVs) to encourage you – and your four-legged companions – to get outside for nature-filled afternoons.”
I can’t tell you how much I am craving this escape. This beauty. This moment of fresh air – literally, and proverbially – from the craziness I actively choose to live in on a day-to-day.
Calabogie is the epicenter of the Ottawa Valley, with rafting, fishing and hiking in the summer, and snowmobiling and skiing in the winter. So it’s time to book that getaway and actively find your Somewhere and your inner peace. It’s been long enough and you need it just as much as I do.
