I like to think that life happens to us in exactly the way we need it to in order to be our best selves. Now, that sometimes is going to mean a rough road, but when you get to the end of it you are so much wiser for having walked it. Amid a crazy 2019 and lots of changes in my life personally and professionally, I have come to trust my instincts a little more. When I feel the necessity to take a day off to recharge, I do it. When I need to speak my truth, I no longer worry if it’s the right decision or not. And when I love brand and it feels right to support them, I do so proudly.

At thirty five years old, I can say that things haven’t always been exactly “clear” for me when it comes to my life and what I want it to be. I’m prone to have a lot of ideas at once and things I want to do – for example lately while building the DTD empire, I’m also contemplating becoming a florist. Because, why not! I’ve held a lot of jobs before finding one that I love as much as this one. I’ve worked with some amazing brands and people over the years. And of course I owe my success to those people in the world who helped open certain doors for me – but I also owe it equally to myself for stepping through those same proverbial doors.
I like to believe that life presents with you with opportunities, and when it feels right you should trust your gut and go for it. Sometimes it’s going to work and sometimes it is not, but at least you can say you tried. As I continue in our expansion as a brand, I am also “expanding” my personal life. I am still actively saving for a baby, planning more personal travel, and focusing on my mental wellbeing while juggling it all. My therapist laughs when I tell her I talk about her on the blog, but I mean it as the biggest form of flattery. She’s changed my life in so many ways! Had you told me five years ago when I started the blog that I would be sitting down at my office in Toronto, with nine amazing staff around the world, that I would be excited for the month of January I would have probably laughed in your face. Having grown up in Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto – I am very well aware of what a Canadian winter can be like. For those of you who follow along on our #DoTheDaniel adventures on our Instagram stories (and if you don’t – what are you waiting for?! We have loads of fun over there!) you’ll have seen that I was recently invited to Canadian Tire’s Christmas House party. With seven rooms devoted to seven CANVAS colours: red, gold, silver, blue, white, brights and serene rose (my personal favourite) it was like stepping inside Christmas itself. With garlands and tinsel and sparkles (oh my!) I was lucky enough to view their entire Holiday line-up. I was able to get ideas for my wishlist to Santa started nice and early, but I also came to realize that Canadian Tire is incredibly versatile when it comes to helping us create beautiful memories for the holidays and beautiful spaces in our homes. Above and beyond the ribbon and wrapping, there were several furniture items I now need to see if Santa can fit in his sleigh for me!
