The Best Decision We’ve Made So Far

It’s been four years since I launched what, at the time, was a passion project in a new world I have fallen in love with. Writing a blog was an outlet for me, and allowed me to feel as though I could express myself while I worked to build my career in Marketing. Flash forward to December 2017 when DoTheDaniel.com is now an incorporated business with a lawyer & accountant, and Catherine and I were faced with making a pretty huge decision about our next step.

Having a successful business can mean a lot of things. But for those of you who are in the same boat, or work remotely from home, you know the biggest challenge that I faced: distraction. I remember when I quit my full time job to blog full time. It was a bittersweet moment because I loved my job, but at the same time I swore I would never be a 9-5 person because I was my own boss now. Well, I guess I changed my mind, because in December we were weighing our options with some Austin Office Advisors for a permanent space to run Do The Daniel Inc. from with our growing staff. It was simply too big of a an entity to run from our small condo, and I didn’t want to simply transplant it to our new home. I needed something new, bigger & better for the whole team.

When I felt lost in lease options and the fact that I could face astronomical prices by getting an office, I came across SPACES, and had an epiphany. I had found the perfect space for us. Coworking is not a new concept by any means, but when it comes to the institution of it in cities around the world, SPACES is one of the best in the business. It’s first venture into Canada now lives at 180 John Street in Toronto (with a second location already in the works in Yorkville, and other locations slated to open across the country in the year)

So I guess it’s important to talk about why SPACES was the perfect home for us? #Coworking is a concept where you pay a fraction of the cost of running an independent office, while thriving in a creative and supportive community. SPACES does offer offices as well, but I opted for the #coworking membership since it allowed us a bit of freedom while we transitioned back to the 9-5 life.

The goal is to eventually set up shop in an office as we continue to grow, but this affordable option is perfect for us right now – click here for membership details or to try SPACES for yourself before committing. With secure entry to the building, we have access to a reception desk that can accept packages for us, distinct shared areas on each floor, and the most immaculate 7th floor that I have no doubt will be the new hot spot for events in Toronto for the media. And those are just a few of the perks! I really love the space that we have, it works well for the time being. However, I know that in the future when we get more settled and continue to grow we will be looking at getting an actual office for ourselves. I did have a look at some great office designs as well (which you can find now at kireiusa.com), and I have to say I am very excited for when we are actually able to do this. But for now, SPACES works brilliantly for us.

There is something incredibly inspiring about working from our new space. I feel accomplished and focused every single day. We’re quickly making friends with the other businesses and entrepreneurs who work from here, and I know that it is one of the best decisions we have made for us professionally. There are different options to share offices for all types of professions from bloggers like us to the medical business. If you are looking for different medical office space to share, you could consider coworking. Sharing your office means that you share certain facilities, so this could allow you the opportunity to meet new people, whilst also running your own shared office. Coworking can be a beneficial and enjoyable way of sharing office space. From students to start-ups, there is a space for everyone here at SPACES. And I’m not the only one who thinks so.

Loving my days in our new office space.
