Travel & Lifestyle | Why I’m planning a trip to The Philippines in 2016

I think as I’ve gotten older I’ve come to realize that it is the experiences, not the “things” I have collected, that have helped to define who I am. Travel has become such an important outlet for me to find myself, and now that I am married it is also a way to create memories that I can carry with me for the rest of my life with my husband. In 2016 I am trying to get as many amazing opportunities as I can with Julio and when we are lucky enough to do it, we love to share them with you all. The Philippines is one of the hottest new destinations and Canadians are flocking there for good reason – come see why!

When I think of escaping to a sunny destination, like most Canadians, I of course am drawn to the Caribbean. But did you know that the beaches of The Philippines can help to create that one of a kind escape we all desperately crave? With over 7,000 islands, The Philippines is one of the largest island groups in the world? White sandy beaches such as those in Boracay or Cebu have me dreaming of romantic moments and endless days in the sun.

I am the kind of person who, when traveling, loves to explore the local culture and community. “Known for their friendly smiles and welcoming nature, Filipinos are recognized as some of the kindest people in the world. Plus, their love of song and dance is an instant connection among friendly Canadians.”

Food is of course a huge part of a vacation, and unfortunately some destinations in the sun have options that can be very “touristy” and unadventurous. Filipino food blends together Malay, Chinese, Spanish, Japanese and American cuisine and is all about local ingredients. Halo-Halo, Adobo and many other local favourites will leave you captivated and smiling while enjoying the beauty of The Philippines. Did I also mention that the average temperature is 26 degrees? Hello sun kissed skin and a gorgeous tan!

Discovering the world has never been easier and I know that The Philippines will be one of those destinations that I will fall in love with the moment I land with Julio. How could I not?!
