Food & Wine | We’ve found our favourite foodie spot in the heart of Toronto’s Financial District

Let’s be honest, finding somewhere to eat in downtown Toronto at any time of the day can be an overwhelming task. With hundreds of choices and long waits, it can leave your head spinning. But what if I told you that I’ve found my favourite spot in the heart of the city core that not only has ample space & beautiful architecture but also has ample choices at any time of the day? The stunning new Food Terrace at First Canadian Place has options for any craving you may have and so much more. See why you’ll be seeing a LOT more of DoTheDaniel.com at this foodie Valhalla.

“Unrivaled as Canada’s tallest business landmark since 1975, First Canadian Place towers 72 stories above Toronto’s Financial District. This Brookfield property was ahead of its time, exceeding building code requirements and operational standards while providing a truly comprehensive array of tenant services and amenities, including three levels of retail, restaurants and services.”

For Torontonians, First Canadian Place is a staple in our day to day lives. I often find myself admiring its stunning architecture and modern white aesthetics from the moment I walk through the doors via the city’s PATH system. But did you know that it also houses one of the biggest food destinations in the city? The Food Terrace brings together some of your favourite restaurants and food establishments in one HUGE space.

After R]recently visiting to explore the latest additions to the Food Terrace, its needless to say I didn’t leave hungry. (as you’ll note above with the small selection of items I picked up)

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, but as a Libra I LOVE having options. It may take me a while to make a decision, but it pleases me to no end to walk into the Food Terrace and have dozens of options readily available.

So what changes have occurred that have me so excited? Increased seating capacity now allows over 1200 guests to enjoy the open floor plan that seems to go on forever. Not to mention updated decor like contemporary furnishings (white tables w/metal accents – GREAT #Instamoments. Just saying), trendy light fixtures, an outdoor patio, complimentary Wi-Fi thanks to TELUS and much more!

But let’s be honest, you want to know what restaurants I enjoyed today and will continue to, don’t you? In no particular order, take a look at all the amazing restaurants located in the Food Terrace alongside my personal MUST try item:

Amaya Express

“Amaya Express offers quick and exceptional Indian fare.” Chicken Tikka Masala is my favourite, and the spicier the better. An east meets west moment in every bite that satisfies my craving for authentic Indian cuisine. Not to be missed!

Jimmy the Greek

“We provide customers with high quality, fresh and healthy food, served in a fast and friendly manner with a touch of Greek hospitality.” Though there is normally a bit of a wait for these iconic dishes, it is well worth the wait! My usual is the Chicken Souvlaki dinner with extra garlic sauce.

Maxim

“Everything is made from scratch, fresh every day, using all natural ingredients.” – Asides a set menu to choose from, their daily specials made it tough to pick. But I opted for the most popular item, the Shepherds pie – and was very impressed with how delicious it was! Home-made cooking in a convenient location for those at the office needing a great meal.

Mr. Sub

A Canadian classic that is always sure to satisfy your hunger. Try the Ultimate Club for a sandwich that’ll leave you smiling – “Sliced turkey, ham, succulent roast beef, crispy bacon, melted cheddar cheese, lettuce and tomatoes – all drizzled with our buttermilk ranch sauce.”

Mucho Burrito

I’m a sucker for Tex-Mex and this will always be my go-to at the Food Terrace. “It starts with real food, fresh food, free of preservatives or artificial flavours.” Try the AAA Steak and Chipotle Steak Vinaigrette Salad Bowl for that extra kick in your day.

Pumpernickel’s

“At Pumpernickel’s, we believe that whether you simply need breakfast for a small meeting or lunch for a large crowd, you expect – and deserve – the same quality of food and service and the same attention to detail.” Whether I’m grabbing a healthy breakfast before meetings or enjoying a sandwich made in front of me, it’s all about quality. Try The Chef’s Gourmet Omelette Sandwich for the best way to start the day.

Ruby Thai

“Ruby Thai provides a quick but authentic Thai cuisine experience – serving with fresh ingredients and friendly service.” With daily options that are regularly rotated, it’s about satisfying your craving. Try The Dim Sum Combo at lunch to get those creative juices flowing.

Szechuan Express

“Choose from a wide variety of delicious selections, from their lemon chicken, Cantonese chow-mien, fried rice, noodle soups and many more savory Chinese dishes.” For Julio, this is food heaven. Try the Xiao Long Bao combo. I can guarantee you won’t be disappointed!

Tim Hortons

So quintessentially Canadian, it needs no introduction. My personal favourite is an everything bagel double-toasted with herb and garlic cream cheese served with a Large Double Double. Nothing better.

Maman

Stepping into this beautiful addition you’ll feel as though you’re on the streets of Paris. “The savoury and sweet menu changes every day, features dishes created from the highest quality, locally sourced ingredients, and highlights Chef Armand Arnal’s classic French technique.” I enjoyed a Croque-Monsieur, lemon tart and lavender hot chocolate… it was pure bliss. Did I also mention they have a liquor license for those special occasions and business meetings?

Cactus Club Cafe

The newest addition to the family of Food Terrace restaurants. “Cactus Club Cafe’s Eastern Flagship location at First Canadian Place boasts re-imagined menu items and elevated design.” Matching the sophisticated design and options available at the Food Terrace, I’d highly recommend the Ravioli & Prawn trio to start, followed by the Four Mushroom Sirloin. Yes. It tastes as amazing as it sounds.

Vertical Restaurant & Bar

The shinning gem of the Food Terrace overlooking King Street and seemingly busy, particularly in the warmer months with its beautiful patio. “Under the direction of Chef Giacomo Pasquini, the ingredient-driven seasonal cuisine is inspired by the diverse regions of Italy with a focus on simplicity and freshness. Whole fish, fresh pasta and naturally-raised Ontario beef are specialties of Vertical.” But what to eat? The Branzino Filet with a Gin & Tonic sounds like just what the doctor ordered.

With so many options to choose from, these are just a few of my favourites. I’m sure as I continue to visit with friends & Julio, I’ll discover more items that I love. It’s the beauty of the Food Terrace and why I love visiting First Canadian Place for it’s food options day and night!
