When I stop to think about the people who have made the biggest impact on my life, there are of course a handful that come to mind right away. But besides those beautiful members of my world, both near and far, it’s important to remember where it all started.
Where I learnt to be a good person. To give the world my best. To have hope against all odds. To be kind. To love unconditionally.
It all started with my Mom. And this Mother’s Day I wanted to make sure I reminded her of how important she really is. You have to understand that I am a hopeless romantic at heart. I believe in the importance of hand-written notes, sending cards to put a smile on someone’s face, and making those people I love feel loved with just the right gift. I would stock up on the ones that helped me express how I feel, and it’s still a habit I like to keep going all these years later.

I remember being a young boy, saving up allowance, and buying my mom the tackiest things. She was always so appreciative because she knew that despite my questionable taste, it came from a good place. Thankfully, Hallmark Canada has beautiful jewelry for mom that she would be proud to wear. And especially for those of you who don’t live close to mom, it’s something you can buy yourself too to keep her with you everyday and remind you to give her a call more often!

These are the cutest thing I have seen in a very long time. Bringing me back to a moment in my life where pop-up books were the best thing I had even seen, these beautifully designed cards are themselves something that Mom can display in her house this year. The bigger, the better in my opinion. And don’t tell my mom that one is on the way!
4. Scented Candles
I remember growing up in a household that my mom filled with potpurri and candles. It was something I don’t think I came to appreciate until much later in life thanks to others and their appreciation, but now I love the smell of a beautiful candle, or some room filling melts of course. Lavender and vanilla are smells that immediately bring me back to happy memories with Mom and so I was so happy to pick up a couple at Hallmark!
5. Bags & Totes
My mom has always been ahead of her time in many ways. I remember when I was growing up, groaning about having to carry in our reusable bags to the grocery store or as we ran errands. In 2018, and in an age of understanding that something as simple as not using plastic bags can help the environment, I smile as I carry around my own to the grocery store. I have even go so far as using a reusable cup when I make my numerous Starbucks Canada visits a day because I recognize that it’s a small choice that can have a big difference. Again, a lesson I learned from Mom.
I still smile thinking about Hallmark and the moments they helped me celebrate, mark, and share over my 34 years. A piece of my life that I was able to help me convey something beautiful to someone I love. And Mother’s Day is a time for you to show your mom, mother figure, or the mothers in your life around you that they are amazing women. Yes, we should celebrate them this way all year long – but this day, maybe a little more!
