With #PrideMonth in full force, I am going to be sharing a lot of #Pride content with you all over the next month. Both because I am proud of who I am as a gay man, but also to be a voice for my community and those communities often muted in the world for their differences.
I feel, now more than ever, it is important to remember that the first pride was a riot. That our community has taken a long time to get to where we are. And it is with partners and allies that we will continue to thrive and share our ability to be Proud. Rainbow washing happens a lot at this time of year – the idea of throwing a rainbow on a product to make a quick buck while not actually being an ally at all. So all I can say right now is educate yourself on the brand before giving them your dollars. Or come to trusted members of the LGTBQ+ and ask us. So, without further fuss, let’s talk about a brand that is and has always supported us and our ability to express who we are.
When it comes to expression, one way that many members of the LGBTQ+ community feel most like themselves is with their clothes, hair and makeup. A way to allow me to make myself feel on the outside how fabulous I feel on the inside.
For those of you following along with Julio & I while we #StayHome, you’ll have seen that we’ve been buzzing a lot about doing our first ever drag make-up. Thankfully, with a lot of planning and finding ways to give back to the drag community in our upcoming content, we are lucky enough to be partnering with NYX Professional Makeup Canada. And lucky for us, it seems to be perfect timing for their new #PROUDALLIESFORALL campaign, in support of It Gets Better Canada.
Not only is NYX Professional Makeup Canada donating 100% net profits from their new Pride Collection to It Gets Better Canada, up to $25,000 – they are also allowing for content creators like Julio and myself to lend our voices and support to the drag community. A community, I might remind you, which is the reason why we are so free to be who we are today!
SO what products am I getting my hands on to make my drag debut? Here’s the new line that I am madly in love with.
PRIDE EDITION ULTIMATE SHADOW PALETTE
PRIDE EDITION SHOUT LOUD SATIN LIPSTICK
PRIDE EDITION VIVID BRIGHTS EYELINER
and of course the rest of the Pride Collection. Not only does this brand believe in me and us as a community – it is also giving back. And for that reason and many more I am excited to work with @nyxcosmetics_canada this year for Pride.
I encourage you all to support brands that support us all year round – be proud to share the things, moments and people that make you proud. Follow @nyxcosmetics_canada on Instagram, @nyxcosmeticscan on Twitter and ‘Like’ their Facebook page. Please use and share the #PROUDALLIESFORALL hashtag as well so we can see how beautiful you feel and which products you love most
