A Different Kind of Canadian

The time has come to have this chat – because whether you like it or not – winter is coming and my friends it’s time to start thinking about how we are going to live it to its fullest. Saying 2020 is not the year I was expecting is the understatement of a lifetime, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t enjoy of Canada’s most iconic seasons in a different kind of Canadian way.

I recently was introduced to Will Poho – the man behind Woodpecker. When doing a bit more research about the brand and coats, I came to learn a lot about this entirely different idea of what a Canadian winter coat “should be.”

Will Poho (google him – serious) a long time coat designer and manufacturer is back with a new Cruelty free Parka line.

“Woodpecker is a high end Parka brand that updates time honored Canadian Parkas with an ethical cruelty free (Vegan) twist. … There are much better alternatives to down and fur. We respect animals and we refuse to use down and fur in our products. Our products are always in heat, never in fur!”

Woodpecker is a satirical brand with a good hearted, mischievous character, much like the bird its named after. Will Poho – “ Who wants a rainbow with only one colour? Woodpecker believes that diversity is what makes the world such a magical place. It takes every size, shape, colour and gender to make this planet what it is. Whoever you are, whatever you identify to be. Woodpecker welcomes you with open wings and open paws.”

Now listen, I am by no means here to preach veganism. I own ethically sourced fur. But I also believe that every purchase should be weighed when it comes to supporting Canadian brands that are trying to make the world better. And this year, Woodpecker really spoke to me. And so I wanted to share the message with you all because I honestly was so impressed with the science to ensure I stay warm during the cold months.

Sustans®, is currently the only bio-based high technological material for heat preservation in the world, used in winter-proof coats – so you’re kept warm, via something natural that is cruelty free!

Listen, I’m not here to question your choices on fur vs faux fur (which we all know my stance on considering the pollution that causes) or whether or not you believe in one brand and not another. I am simply inspired by a Canadian company that is using science to help make Canadians more comfortable in the winter.

For those of you curious to see the coats for yourself in person, Holt Renfrew Pop up promotions are taking place on November 6,7 & 8 at Yorkville and Yorkdale locations. I suggest you head there early to ensure you get yours before they sell out!

I encourage you to check out the cheekiness of the brand, learn a little bit more for yourself by heading to the Woodpecker website, and think about where you want to spend your money this year for the winter season.

To join in the social media conversation going on around a very important cause I love, make sure to follow @woodpeckercanada on Instagram and by “Following” their Facebook page.
