Unpopular Opinion: I am Traveling Soon And This is Why

With the world we live in, travel seems to be a hot topic in conversations both in real life and online, and I thought it was time I chimed in on the conversation. Although this post and our upcoming trip may ignite conversations, it’s important to remember that leisure travel is still possible if done in a safe manner with the right precautions in place.

But before you jump down my throat for travelling this week, why don’t you take a moment to listen to why it’s so important for me to do so for my fifth wedding anniversary and why I feel so safe in doing so.

It’s no a secret that marriage is hard. For those of you who are married I can hear you all nodding your head in approval in unison. Ours is not an exception to this rule by any means and we’ve had some challenging (and in hindsight far too public) moments. If I am brutally honest with myself, two of the last four wedding anniversaries have been good. So yeah… not a great average.

With an upcoming trip to Vancouver in the calendar that I’ve wanted to take all year long, I realized it was the perfect opportunity for us to celebrate our wedding anniversary safely in Vancouver together. Being that Julio has never been, I thought it made the most sense to book our vacation package to Vancouver using Air Canada Vacations Flight + Hotel option. As many of you know, earlier this year I announced that we would be collaborating with them in early 2021 to promote safe international travel and how to do it properly.

I’ve had the pleasure of traveling to Vancouver several times for the blog and each time I’ve realized that this majestic city is not only starkly different than Toronto, but it also helps me to feel like I can recharge my proverbial batteries. We no longer live in March 2020 and leisure travel can and is happening safely. So I knew that during such an exceptional year, we would celebrate our love in an exceptional way.

Why Air Canada Vacations? Because I feel completely safe in their hands.

First off, when you book a Flight & Hotel package with Air Canada Vacation, included in your package is your round-trip flights on Air Canada, your hotel (with an option to add a car rental), 1 free checked bag per person, and the ability to earn Aeroplan points.

Plus, by bundling your bookings (vs. booking your flight and hotel separately) you end up saving which is always a win! In terms of safety, Air Canada has introduced an industry-leading program committed to end-to-end health and safety protocols with Air Canada CleanCare+.

From check-in, to boarding and on board, they really have put safety first every step of the way. Things that really stood out to me included the fact that the plane is thoroughly cleaned and sanitized at each turn with a deep clean each time it overnights, that they have a HEPA filtration system which captures 99.9% of airborne particles, that all customers must wear protective face coverings, and the inclusion of disposable Customer Care Kits which includes complimentary mask, bottled water, hand sanitizer, disinfecting wipes, headsets, and a snack.

Yes the world is different, and thankfully so is travel.

That’s the point I am trying to make in sharing this blog post with you. If you don’t want to travel, you don’t have to. But if you have an opportunity to and the occasion presents itself, Air Canada has made sure that you can do so in a safe manner.

But why travel and why now? So many have put off travel in the current climate and while I understand that earlier this year that was the correct course of action, I am of the opinion that travel can be done safely.

For those of us who feel safe enough to do so, I think it’s an important part of the world we live in. It’s why I am also excited to be safely travelling again with them in January as mentioned above – more details to come, but you can click here to learn more.

While I know this may be a polarizing blog post amid a pretty polarized year, please understand that I am doing this because a safe trip to Vancouver with my husband can tip the scales to three out of five anniversaries being good. And for my mental and emotional well-being, I really need this.

Travel between our provinces is open. I am breaking no rules. We will respect and maintain physical distancing and abide by local public health guidelines. And we will celebrate our love in a way that I know we deserve. Safely.

For those of you considering safe travel within Canada, I highly recommend you check out the Flight & Hotel packages with Air Canada Vacations. They can help to take the worry out of travel and you can rest assured knowing you’re in the best hands.
